Elephants Rest: a small Cafe with a big difference!

We, Cheryl & Bob, are a small husband wife team who share our private home, gardens & love of Africa with the public each summer season.

Frequently noted as a 'Hidden Gem', our customers enjoy a coffee, bite to eat, or even a beer or wine in our relaxing African themed gardens, with just the sounds of the African bush to quietly soothe your mind.

We have over 20+ years of experience travelling Africa by ourselves & happy to help assist if you have any thoughts of travelling there in the future.

NIGHT DINNERS Under The Stars

Available for groups of 6 - 8 guests, makes a very PRIVATE, INTIMATE & UNIQUE venue for just You and Your Friends.

Lit by the glow of the lanterns & the stars above, let the crackle of the fire and the sounds of the African Bush surround you, as we invite you to enjoy the magic of our African night dinners.

All dinners must be booked in advance, (preferably allowing 2 weeks,) by organising a dinner of your choice, for a night of your choice.

Tea, coffee & desert are all included in price, and alcohol drinks are available for purchase from our Karibu Bar.

Please note the accommodation offer if you don't wish to drive home.

Traditional Potjie

Come serve yourself from the BIG BLACK POTJIE POT that has been cooking slowly in the afternoon. Cape Malay (sweet) Currie, or the very traditional goat or Lamb Potjie full of flavoursome vegetables.

Learn some African culture & eat like the 'locals' with Chapati, rice & Kenyan Ugali, (a maize meal porridge eaten by indigenous all over Africa. Go back as often as you like, - like the venue tonight, it is ALL for YOU!! but leave a bit room for desert! $50.pp

Gourmet Braii

The difference between a Braii & an Aussie barbie is the way it's cooked. A Braii is cooked over open flames, which is what we aim to do, but, if fire bans or weather dictate no open flames, then it is nice to know that we can still enjoy the exotic tastes of different wild meats. Buffalo steaks, Boerewors, crocodile and a selection of Gourmet Game meat sausages. Team that with summer salads & a south African desert, MmMmm, no wonder it's a South African favourite!! $65.pp

Carnivores Nights

We leave the Carnivore Nights mainly to April due to the weather restrictions in the heat of summer. Cooking over the coals on a rotisserie, daylight saving has finished and the night is dark & mysterious. The flames of the fires greet you with the aromas of the slowly rotating meats.* We offer a selection of ROTISSERIE GAME MEATS: depending on availability: Venison, Buffalo, camel, emu, Crocodile, or Wild Boar,.... plus an assortment of roast Vegetables for the Herbivores. Finishing with desert. $65 pp

ACCOMMODATION for dinner guests.

If you prefer not to drink drive after your dinner, you are welcome to set-up your own van, / camper for the night free of charge.

Exclusively for our dinner guests who do not wish to drive home, we can offer various options to sleep all 4 couples if needed. ~ It is not the Ritz, but you can lay your head in a bed without the fear of drink driving.

We can accommodate all 8 guests in 4 beds for a total of $130. which Must be Booked in advance.

Inside the house, we offer our main guest room with queen bed; and another private room with double fold out sofa bed; both of which use our shared facilities. Our LandRover camper has a double bed & own ensuite, & for the nature lovers, we offer a high queen size inflatable bed in a large tent on the lawns.

In the morning Bacon & Egg breakfast is also available for $10 head

WEEKDAY GROUPS

WEEKDAY OPTIONS FOR GROUPS OF 10 - 30ppl.

By Pre-booking, Groups of 10 - 30 guests have Private use of the venue with a choice of Morning or afternoon DEVONSHIRE TEAS OR BBQ LUNCHEON.

Devonshire tea consists of Pots of Tea and Plunger coffee placed on the tables with Bobs freshly cooked warm SCONES, jam & cream. $10pp

BBQ Luncheons consist of 3 Meats, 3 Salads with tea & Plunger Coffee, Meats & Salads set out on 3 separate Station Tables for Self Service. BBQ Luncheon $ 30pp.

A COLD DRINK, SELF SERVICE option, for extra $5pp is available when booked as a group. All you drink from self service dispensers.

SMALLER GROUPS OF 6 - 10 people with special occasions may also book with further options of using our weekend menus.
